Anti-Wrinkle Injections Near Northcote: A Registered Nurse's Honest Guide

A lot of my clients drive in from Northcote. They tell me the same thing every time: they wanted someone close to home, someone qualified, and someone who wouldn't talk them into more treatment than they actually needed. That's a fair set of expectations, and it's one of the reasons I built my practice the way I have.
If you live in Northcote and you're researching anti-wrinkle injections for the first time, this guide is for you. I'm going to walk you through what anti-wrinkle injections actually do, who's a good candidate, what to look for in a clinic, and what to expect when you book. I treat people from all across Melbourne's inner north every week, so I know the questions Northcote locals ask before they pick up the phone.
ReflectorN is located at 145C Station Street in Fairfield, roughly 5 minutes from Northcote. Easy on-street parking, no city traffic, and you're treated by the same registered nurse every visit, not whoever happens to be rostered on.
What are anti-wrinkle injections, in plain English?
Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein called botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax specific facial muscles. When a muscle relaxes, the skin sitting on top of it stops creasing. Over the next two weeks, the lines softens and the skin smooths out.
The effect is targeted. We're not freezing your whole face. We're calming the muscles that are creating the lines that bother you, and leaving the rest alone. Done well, the result is that you look like yourself on a good morning. Not stiff, not surprised, not "done."
In Australia, the products I use are TGA-approved and can only be prescribed and administered by a registered medical professional. That's not marketing language, that's the law.
Who is a good candidate for anti-wrinkle treatment?
In my experience treating clients from Northcote, Thornbury, Alphington and across the inner north, good candidates fall into three groups.
The first group is people in their late twenties and early thirties who have started noticing fine lines that don't go away when their face is at rest. These are usually frown lines between the brows or fine forehead lines. Treatment at this stage is what we call preventative. Small doses, infrequently, to slow down the formation of permanent creases. This group makes up a growing portion of my practice.
The second group is people in their late thirties through their fifties who have established expression lines. Forehead lines, crow's feet around the eyes, that vertical "11" between the brows. This group sees the biggest visible difference from treatment, because there's something obvious to soften.
The third group is people in their late fifties and sixties who want to look refreshed without dramatic intervention. For this group, I often combine small anti-wrinkle doses with skin boosters or bio-remodelling so we're addressing both muscle movement and skin quality together.
Anti-wrinkle injections are not suitable for everyone. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular condition like myasthenia gravis, are taking certain antibiotics, or have an active skin infection in the treatment area, I'll either delay treatment or recommend an alternative. This is one of the reasons I do a proper consultation before anything goes near a needle.
The three most common treatment areas
About 90 percent of my first-time anti-wrinkle clients want treatment in one or more of these three areas.
Forehead lines are the horizontal lines that run across the forehead. They form because we raise our eyebrows constantly, often without realising. Treating the forehead alone can sometimes feel heavy, which is why I almost always treat it together with the frown muscles. The two muscle groups work as a pair.
Frown lines, also called glabellar lines or the "11s", sit vertically between the eyebrows. These are the ones that make people look angry or worried even when they're not. Frown lines are often the first thing my Northcote clients point to in the mirror, and they respond beautifully to treatment.
Crow's feet are the fine lines that fan out from the outer corners of your eyes when you smile or squint. This is a delicate area and technique matters. Treated correctly, your smile still looks natural but the lines are softer. Over-treated, your smile loses character. I take a conservative approach here and would rather have you back for a small top-up than risk that.

What actually happens at your appointment
Your first appointment at ReflectorN runs about 30 to 45 minutes. The breakdown looks like this.
The first 15 to 20 minutes is the consultation. I'll ask what's bothering you, look at how your face moves, talk you through realistic expectations, and explain the cost clearly before any treatment is booked. I don't pressure people to proceed on the spot. If you want to think about it, you go home and think about it.
The injection portion takes 10 to 15 minutes once we start. The needles are very fine, about 30 gauge, and most clients describe each injection as a quick pinch lasting roughly a second. For nervous clients I have topical numbing cream available, although most decide they don't need it.
After treatment, you can drive yourself home, return to work, pick up the kids, whatever you have on. No bandages, no downtime. You might have small bumps at each injection point that flatten within 20 minutes, and occasionally a small bruise that's easily covered with makeup.
I see every first-time client back at the two-week mark for a complimentary review. This is when the full result has developed, and it gives me a chance to make any small adjustments and answer any questions that come up.
When will I actually see the results?
This is the question I get asked most, so I'll give you the honest timeline.
Day 1 to 2: nothing visible yet. You might feel the treated muscles still moving normally.
Day 3 to 5: most clients start to notice the treated muscles feeling weaker. Lines begin to soften.
Day 10 to 14: full effect is visible. This is the result you can judge.
Month 3 to 4: movement gradually returns. Lines start to reappear.
Month 4 onwards: time to consider your next treatment, if you're happy with the result.
The duration depends on individual metabolism, the dose used, and which muscles were treated. The muscles around the mouth and crow's feet tend to recover movement slightly faster than the forehead and frown muscles.

What to look for in a clinic near Northcote
Northcote and the surrounding suburbs have a lot of clinics offering anti-wrinkle injections. Beauty salons, dental clinics, GP-run cosmetic businesses, and dedicated cosmetic nurses like me. This is what I'd suggest looking for, regardless of where you end up booking.
Verify your injector's AHPRA registration. You can search anyone's registration on the AHPRA website (ahpra.gov.au) in 30 seconds. If they're not registered as a doctor or registered nurse, walk away. I'm registered as a Division 1 Registered Nurse (RN1).
Ask who specifically will treat you. Some clinics rotate practitioners. I'd rather you booked with someone who will assess your face, design your plan, and execute it personally — and who will be there at every follow-up. At ReflectorN, that's always me.
Ask about their consultation approach. A good cosmetic clinic does a proper consultation before treatment, even if you've had treatment before. If a clinic is willing to inject you 10 minutes after you walk in the door with no real conversation, that's a red flag.
Be cautious about price-driven offers. Anti-wrinkle injections are dose-based, so an unusually low price often means a smaller dose than you actually need, which means a result that fades faster. I price based on the units of product used, so you're paying for exactly what you receive.
Look for transparent pre and post-care information. Every reputable clinic will give you clear information about preparing for treatment and aftercare. If you can't find this anywhere, ask why.
Common questions from my Northcote clients
I've collected the questions I get asked most often into a FAQ section below. If your question isn't here, our full FAQ page covers more, and I'm always happy to answer questions during your consultation.
Frequently asked questions
How far is ReflectorN from Northcote?
Our clinic is at 145C Station Street, Fairfield VIC 3078, approximately 5 minutes from Northcote by car. Most clients drive, and there's free on-street parking nearby. We're a short trip from High Street Northcote, Westgarth, Thornbury, and Alphington.
Do you offer free consultations for anti-wrinkle treatment?
Yes. Every first-time client at ReflectorN receives a complimentary consultation. We discuss what's bothering you, assess your facial anatomy, and provide a clear treatment plan and quote before you commit to anything.
How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost?
Australian AHPRA regulations prevent cosmetic clinics from publishing injectable pricing online. During your consultation, I'll explain exactly how many units you need and give you transparent pricing. We charge by the unit, so you only pay for what's used.
Is it safe to get anti-wrinkle injections from a nurse rather than a doctor?
In Australia, both registered nurses and doctors can legally administer cosmetic injectables, provided they have a current prescription from a medical practitioner and are AHPRA registered. Many cosmetic nurses, including me, treat injectables as our full-time specialty rather than one service among many. What matters is the individual injector's training, experience, and approach, not just the title.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?
For most first-time clients, results last 3 to 4 months. With regular treatments over time, results often extend to 4 to 6 months because the treated muscles gradually weaken from consistent treatment.
Can I work out after anti-wrinkle injections?
I ask clients to avoid intense exercise for 24 hours after treatment. This isn't because exercise damages the product, but because increased blood flow and sweat in the treatment area can slightly increase bruising risk and product migration in the first few hours.
Will my face look frozen?
Only if your injector uses too much product. A skilled cosmetic nurse will dose conservatively, especially for first-time clients, so you maintain natural expression. I'd rather see a client back for a small top-up at the two-week review than over-treat and have you waiting four months for movement to return.
What if I don't like the result?
Unlike dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections can't be reversed once injected. However, the effect is temporary and wears off naturally within 3 to 4 months. This is one reason I treat conservatively at first and build up gradually. At the two-week review, if you want more, we can add. If you wanted less, we wait it out together.
